Our studio is persistently exploring opportunities and potential for integrated collaborative design, this store was designed almost as a gallery for Ritu Kumar’s outstanding collection of palampores and of course her garments.

The design of the store, in an old heritage building is a search for Genius Loci to immerse us in an atmosphere that is of its time and place, yet yearns for timelessness. This is achieved by way of first restoring the outside and insides of the space to its former condition- with a stone floor, rounded plaster walls, bare steel roof girders, and timber framed fenestrations. The next layer is a neutral finish of a light-entraining paint, and teak wood floors. At this point, the walls become less important, and the space is the highlight, it is now fit to display the superb chintz' and garments designed by Mrs. Kumar.
